The Redwood Ethos

At Redwood Primary School, we value the uniqueness of all our pupils. Children are encouraged to be proud of themselves and their culture, religion and heritage. Pupils are taught to respect themselves, to respect others and to value diversity. Citizenship is at the root of our curriculum. We aim to equip pupils with the skills, knowledge and attitudes to enable them to become good and active citizens of our city, our country and the world.

Developing happy, healthy, confident and articulate learners is at the heart of everything we do at Redwood Primary School.  From the first steps in the School Nursery or Reception Class, right through to Year 6, we focus on developing the life skills of our pupils, as well as their academic ability.

We pride ourselves on the happy family atmosphere, and the stimulating learning environment in which friendships flourish and pupils achieve. We provide the high standard of education our pupils deserve, and a warm mix of experiences that enrich their daily learning, extend horizons and raise aspirations.

Our commitment to the pursuit of excellence is demonstrated by the dedication and hard work of everyone involved in the School – teaching and support staff, pupils, parents, governors and community groups.

Our principal aims for the next 5 years can be summarised as follows:

  • Provide an excellent education that develops the whole child, so each becomes a life-long learner; use a personalised curriculum that is challenging, stimulating and creative; keep a strong thread of social, moral, spiritual and cultural development throughout.

  • Prepare our pupils for ‘global citizenship’ by helping them develop good communication and language skills, and effective use of IT.

  • Maintain and further develop an excellent learning environment inside and outdoors.

For pupils, our principal aims are simplified and summarized:

  • Make learning even more interesting, important and fun.

  • Help children and adults use good communication and technology more.

  • Make our school work and play areas brilliant.
