At Redwood Primary School, we actively promote the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development of all our pupils, recognising its vital role in supporting their personal development, well-being and preparation for life in modern Britain. We encourage our children to respect and celebrate diversity, demonstrating tolerance, understanding and respect towards people of all faiths, beliefs, races and cultures.

Our curriculum is carefully designed and tailored to meet the needs of our children and the wider school community. We recognise that our pupils bring a range of experiences, backgrounds and individual needs, and we ensure that our curriculum reflects these whilst providing opportunities to broaden their knowledge, understanding and experiences of the world around them.

Safeguarding education is embedded throughout our curriculum and forms a key part of our whole-school approach to personal development. Safeguarding themes and topics are strategically planned across each half term, ensuring that pupils receive age-appropriate, progressive and relevant learning opportunities. These are informed by the emerging needs of our pupils, pupil voice, local safeguarding priorities and national trends, enabling us to respond proactively to potential risks and challenges.

Through our bespoke safeguarding curriculum, we equip children with the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise risks, make informed decisions, develop healthy relationships, stay safe both online and offline, and know where and how to seek help. Key safeguarding messages are regularly revisited and reinforced through whole-school assemblies, classroom discussions and wider curriculum opportunities, helping pupils to retain and apply their learning.

SMSC development is woven throughout everyday school life, including assemblies, PSHE and Relationships Education, Religious Education, School Council and other pupil leadership opportunities. Alongside these, we provide a carefully planned programme of enrichment activities, themed events, awareness weeks, which further enhance pupils' understanding of themselves, others and the wider world.

Through this inclusive and responsive approach, we aim to ensure that every child feels safe, valued, respected and empowered, developing the knowledge, character and confidence to become responsible, respectful and active members of society.

The Redwood Passport – Experiences Beyond the Classroom

At Redwood Primary School, we believe that every child deserves access to a rich and varied range of experiences that extend beyond the classroom. We recognise that learning is not limited to academic achievement and that meaningful experiences play a vital role in developing children's confidence, independence, aspirations and cultural capital.

To support this, we have developed The Redwood Passport, a carefully planned programme of enrichment opportunities and memorable experiences that we aim for every child to enjoy throughout their journey at Redwood, before moving on to secondary school.

Our Redwood Passport includes a wide range of exciting opportunities, such as visiting London, experiencing a campfire and playing alongside an orchestra, alongside many other activities designed to inspire curiosity, develop new skills and broaden children's horizons.

These experiences are thoughtfully selected to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their background or circumstances, have opportunities to discover new interests, develop important life skills, build positive relationships and experience things they may not otherwise encounter.

The Redwood Passport forms an important part of our commitment to personal development, equality of opportunity and raising aspirations. By providing these shared experiences, we aim to create lasting memories, nurture a sense of belonging and ensure that every child leaves Redwood with not only the knowledge and skills needed for the next stage of their education, but also the confidence, ambition and experiences to thrive in the wider world.
