  • PSHE

At Redwood, we believe that Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education is a vital part of every child's development. We use the Jigsaw scheme of work, which provides a comprehensive, progressive and inclusive PSHE curriculum from Reception through to Year 6. Jigsaw supports children in developing the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to become happy, healthy, resilient and responsible members of society. Learning builds progressively across the year groups, allowing children to revisit and deepen their understanding of key concepts as they grow.

The Jigsaw programme is organised into six half-termly themes, known as "Jigsaw Pieces":

    • Being Me in My World – understanding rights, responsibilities, belonging and making positive choices.
    • Celebrating Difference – valuing diversity, promoting inclusion and challenging stereotypes and bullying.
    • Dreams and Goals – setting personal goals, developing resilience and celebrating achievements.
    • Healthy Me – learning about physical and mental health, healthy lifestyles and making safe choices.
    • Relationships – building positive friendships, understanding families and developing respectful relationships.
    • Changing Me – understanding growing up, personal development and preparing for change, including age-appropriate Relationships and Sex Education (RSE).

Our PSHE lessons provide a safe, supportive and respectful environment where every child is encouraged to share ideas, ask questions and engage in meaningful discussions. We recognise that much of PSHE learning happens through talk, reflection and collaborative activities. Each class also uses a Floor Book to capture children's discussions, thoughts, questions and learning journey throughout the year. These Floor Books celebrate pupil voice and demonstrate the progression of knowledge, understanding and personal development across the curriculum.
