The Orchard

The Orchard is Redwood’s ‘SEND Hub’ which was established in April 2024 to cater for the increasing level of Special, Educational Needs within our school. At Redwood, we strive to provide inclusion for all and create learning opportunities and experiences for a wide range of abilities and differing needs. The Orchard provides an adapted curriculum for children in EYFS and KS1.

The Orchard is a self-contained classroom which provides continuous provision and adult lead activities based on children’s interests and individualised plans/targets. The curriculum is flexible and child-centred and is delivered and planned by a qualified teacher and supported by skilled teaching assistants.

Staff focus primarily on communication and interaction and provide a total communication approach. Children are supported in developing independence skills and are provided with a nurturing environment that enables them to foster positive relationships. When appropriate, some children access mainstream provision, such as playtimes and elements of the curriculum that are accessible.

We provide children with a range of enriching experiences that motivate them to learn. We work closely with parents/carers and a range of professionals to ensure all children achieve and reach their full potential.
