REDWOOD PRIMARY SCHOOL
Redwood Primary School opened in September 2011, following the amalgamation of Redwood Infant and Junior Schools. The school sits in a residential area on the south side of Derby. There are 21 classes in the main school, with approximately 570 pupils, plus a 100 place nursery.
The original schools date back to the 1970s, with modern extensions having been added to the nursery and infant building. The school and nursery are set in spacious grounds, with a large field to the rear of the plot. There are separate play areas for nursery, infant and junior pupils.
The school has two large buildings. The Main School accommodates the main reception area, along with the nursery and infant provision. Additionally, two infant classes are located in a terrapin building external to the Main Building. The Upper School provides accommodation for junior pupils, with an annex also accommodating four junior classrooms. There is also Nurture Group provision in a separate building called The Nest.
Pupils are drawn from the local community and from further afield. The school community is ethnically diverse with approximately fifty per cent of pupils coming from minority ethnic groups. Approximately twenty-five per cent of pupils have English as an additional language.
This is a popular school with rising numbers on roll. We work in partnership with parents and operate an open door policy. Pupils are expected to work hard and to behave well.
